House Training 101

House training a puppy requires patience and consistency. Here are some key steps to help you succeed:

Timing is Everything: Take your puppy outside every time they wake up, come out of their crate, eat, drink, or after a vigorous play session. This helps establish a routine and prevents accidents.

Praise and Free Time: When your puppy goes to the bathroom outside, praise them gently and give them some free time to explore. Positive reinforcement is crucial for reinforcing good behavior.

Use a Leash: Taking your pup to the same spot on a leash each time can help them understand where to go. This will prevent them from starting their play session before they earn it by doing the deed.

Crate Training: If your puppy doesn't relieve themselves during the designated bathroom break, put them back in their crate for 15-20 minutes and then try again. This helps them learn to hold it until they're outside.

Restrict Freedom: Your pup shouldn’t have any unsupervised time inside the house until they earn your trust. Best practice would be to keep them attached to you on their leash. If you can’t keep an eye on them, put them back in their crate.

Accidents Happen: If your puppy has an accident indoors, clean it up immediately with an enzyme cleaner to remove the scent. Avoid scolding or punishment; it won't help with training.

Remember, the more consistent you are the more effective the training will be! Zero accidents should be the goal🐕
